By applying the latest ecological technologies like solar panels & LED lights, Solmar Hotels & Resorts becomes the top eco-friendly spot in Baja California

Recognized in 2017 by the municipality of Los Cabos for its outstanding efforts in protecting the natural resources and wildlife of the destination, Solmar Hotels & Resorts strives to protect its home’s breathtaking vistas and unique nature by reducing its yearly carbon footprint using environmentally-friendly practices at multiple of its properties.

Guests at Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa, The Ridge at Playa Grande and Grand Solmar Land’s End Resort & Spa can enjoy the environmentally-friendly experience without stepping out of their suites. Thanks to the implementation of Multistack technology, which does not require the use of liquid propane gas, guests at Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa and The Ridge at Playa Grande can enjoy their Mexico getaway without hurting the environment. Additionally, Grand Solmar Land’s End Resort & Spa takes advantage of the hot Los Cabos sun by installing photothermic solar panels in the property’s rooftops to provide every room with soothing hot water at guests’ disposal. Since January 2018, this action alone has saved 250 tons of carbon dioxide.

“We are continuously implementing these important sustainable practices because Los Cabos’ unparalleled local flora and fauna is one to be cherished, not destroyed. We want to make sure we are contributing to this preservation,” said Ricardo Orozco, VP of Solmar Hotels and Resorts. The resort group developed the changes earlier this year, focusing on decreasing energy usage in all their properties.

Travelers can also enjoy ecological energy-producing tactics at Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa, Grand Solmar Land’s End, Solmar Resort, and Quinta by Solmar by simply taking a dip in the numerous pools available. All underwater lighting fixtures inside these pools were replaced by LED lights of 25-30 watts, thus reducing the energy production per bulb. Moreover, the use of small dichroic halogen lamps instead of high energy consuming lightbulbs brighten the hallways of these hotels and collectively reduce 425 tons of carbon dioxide a year.

Besides implementing environmental efforts at the resorts, Solmar Hotels & Resorts is also supporting the environment behind the scenes. The resort group’s staff is committed to maintaining the environment by safely disposing dangerous residues within the properties and is also involved in a program aimed to save marine turtles at their most vulnerable moment: before birth. Solmar Hotels & Resorts also employs a companywide recycling program called Solmar and the 3-Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), which aims to generate awareness and environmentally friendly actions within Solmar Group employees.

Since its foundation in 1974, Solmar Hotels & Resorts has been a pioneer in the hospitality industry and now ventures in the implementation of eco-friendly resources to make an even bigger impact both in travel and the environment, providing guests with a repertoire of more sustainable resort options for their next vacation.
